Once I figured out the basics of the changing grade or slope to the land the operation went very smoothly. It was like building a stepped sidewalk.
I've had several comments and questions on the blocks because locally the one ton cement blocks are used. The Varden Retaining wall blocks are way more economical and a DYI progect.
The equipment used was a mini excavator, a walk behind skid steer loader, and a straight line level.
Hi Ritchie - Thanks so much for the great review with pictures. Our goal is always to help customers build an excellent wall and do it economically, with less effort. Seems like we our Varden blocks met your need and you accomplished a great project! We look forward to serving you again.
I just want to let you know I love your product! We are going to do a second wall on the other side of our yard.
Hi D
Thanks for the note and we think your wall looks great! Nice selection of plants and great diversity. We are ready for your next wall.
We are thrilled to be a professional Atlanta based installer of the Varden Retaining Wall System. A structural and functional retaining wall covered in plants is an ingenious way to bring vertical gardening into your landscape design to what would otherwise be concrete block or wood timbers. There is no other product in the marketplace that offers the same versatility.

😎Thank you for the very nice review and your most recent project is stunning! We look forward to many successful living retaining wall projects with your company in the future. We are very pleased for the opportunity to work with talented professionals like Moss Landscape Design Group!🌱
this was a great install I had about 50 feet that was in a S curve shape. and this looked great. We are working on getting the plants growing. I added a drip system to help. I did it my self so there are some errors but so far so good.
Glenn:
We love staying close to our customers to help where we can and admire always! You have a great project there and glad our light weight alternative to concrete helped yield a great install for you. Looking forward to seeing the plants grow it over!
Opened box to find three of the pouches unsealed and soil had spilled out in the bag. Will figure out a way to seal them but 100 feels like a lot to have to do extra work to refill/seal myself. I’m sure they’ll work great, but annoying
Thanks for the review! We are sad to hear of the pouch problem with your order. At times the shipping process gets rough and those are our only product that can be effected. As a precaution we sent an extra item just in case. Please call or email us to discuss and know that we are interested in your success with our products.
I ordered a pallet of 250 live retaining wall blocks two years ago, works great for me, my backyard is next to a canyon with drastic slope inaccessible with construction equipment, I find this product extremely helpful, and all manageable to install by myself. Awesome results for landslide mitigation and multi-level planting area retainage, holding steady after two years, I just ordered another pallet for more coverage of my venture, what’s more satisfying is that customer service is very professional. Looking forward for more great project experience
Thanks for the review. Your project useage is a typical one for many customers and your review will help many to understand the system. We have enjoyed hearing about and seeing your living retaining wall project. Looking forward to the pictures!
I used my 2'w x 3't Varden Kitchen Garden with one of the Garden Stands on my balcony and it worked great. I added another 2 x 3 wire panel and trays after some easy modifications so that I could double my balcony garden to 3'w x 4't and harvested till after Thanksgiving. Great space saving product!
We love those racks too! Thanks for the great review Jake and let us know how else we can help you garden in near zero space.
I did a complete renovation of my backyard using these blocks to fix grading issues and double the usable space. I used about 170 blocks. I'm very happy with how they turned out and can't wait for the wall to grow over. I did the entire project by myself using basic hand tools. I think I would have injured my back if I had used stone blocks. I love the fact that I have doubled my gardening space too. Now I have an amazing backyard to enjoy for years to come.
Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to leave such a positive review of our Varden Living Retaining Wall Blocks. We're thrilled to hear that they were the perfect eco-friendly solution for your backyard renovation. It's great to know that you were able to easily install the blocks yourself and that they have doubled your gardening space. Happy gardening, and enjoy your beautiful backyard for years to come!
What at first appears to be a simple piece of plastic is actually an engineering masterpiece. This well constructed tray has thoughtful irrigation incorporated into its design and is built to last for years, regardless if you are a residential or commercial user. This tray design is the cornerstone product to the modular flexibility offered by the Varden system. I couldn’t be happier.
Here are a few pictures of what I was able to build using 4 DYI kits and some materials from the lumber store. Now it’s time to order the trays for the 20’ wall before a spring planting of day neutral strawberries.
